OMA DM-based remote software fault management for mobile devices

چکیده
Mobile devices (e.g. mobile handsets or PDAs) have gained much functionality and intelligence with the growth of mobile network technologies and the increased use of mobile services. As a consequence, mobile devices have become more complex and many related problems have occurred. Specifi cally, sudden rebooting and freezing problems caused by software faults decrease the availability of the mobile device and cause inconvenience to end-users. To solve such problems, academia and industry have focused on Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Device Management (DM); this method is the international de facto standard for mobile device management. In this paper, we propose a software fault management method to remotely determine and correct problems of mobile devices based on OMA DM. We present a defi nition of management objects and a method to collect them from mobile devices using the OMA DM protocol. We also present a method for debugging and correcting software faults using the collected information. Finally, we present a prototype implementation and performance evaluation to validate our proposed method. Results of the performance evaluation show that our proposed method is effi cient and scalable in regard to network traffi c overhead and response time. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The mobile devices have gained much functionality and intelligence with the growth of network technologies, the abundance of network resources, and the increase of various services. At the same time they are also becoming complicated and related problems to services and resources of mobile devices frequently occur. Since it is not easy for the manufacturers to completely remove the software err...
متن کاملOMA DM v1.x compliant lightweight device management for constrained M2M devices
Open Mobile Alliance Device Management (OMA DM) specification is well established and is being widely used to manage mobile devices. However, the current OMA DM protocol (v1.2 and v1.3) is not suitable for constrained M2M devices operating in constrained networks. Therefore, new standards for M2M technology are being developed in order to sustain the exponential growth of M2M wireless communica...

As mobile devices and functionalities have increased and become intelligent, many related problems have occurred. Especially, the degraded quality of service caused by the shadow area has given the end-users much inconvenience. In addition, the credibility of the service providers, the network operators, and the manufacturers of the mobile devices have also decreased. In order to solve these pr...
متن کاملAn OMA DM Based Framework for Updating Modulation Module for Mobile Devices
Due to the rapid advancement of mobile communication technologies, the demands for managing mobile devices effectively to fulfill various functionalities are on the rise. It is well known that mobile devices make use of different kinds of modulation approaches to adapt to various channel conditions. Therefore, in this paper, the authors propose a framework of Modulation Module Update (MMU) for ...
